RD8100 Precision Locator 

Radiodetection's most advance precision locator. Containing a unique arrangement of five custom manufactured precision ground antennas delivering locate accuracy and repeatability. All the RD8100 locators include iLoc, Peak+ & Guidance Modes, Power Filters, Bluetooth, enhanced self-test, simultaneous depth and current readout. 

Save time on site with iLoc remote transmitter: All the RD8100 locators include iLoc. This is an advanced Bluetooth link between the RD8100 locator and Tx-10 transmitter, which allows control of the transmitter's signal power and frequency from up to 450 metres away. Less time walking and more time locating.

Automatic usage logging with GPS positioning: GPS equipped RD8100 locators (RD8100PXLG, RD8100PDLG & RD8100PTLG) automatically log key locate parameters every second, providing a comprehensive picture of individual locates.

Accurate surveying with integrated or external GPS: Save up to 1,000 survey measurements, capturing utility depth, and send to a mobile device using Bluetooth. Add positional data with the integrated GPS option, or combine with external GNSS device using the wireless Bluetooth link.

The RD8100 offers a choice of locate modes, each of which is optimized for specific tasks.

Peak: Displays the strongest response when directly above a cable. Depth and current measurements are also shown. Used for precise locating prior to and during excavation . Many professionals have trained in this mode and appreciate the simplicity of the display.

Peak+: Add Guidance or Null modes to Peak and alternate between them. Used for finding Peak response quickly while checking for the presence of multiple lines or other features which may require extra vigilance.

Guidance: Proportional guidance arrows and differential audio tones indicate if the utility is to the left or right of the user. Used for checking general direction of utilities as part of a pre-locating sweep. Better for congested areas than null mode alone.

Null: Arrows and audio signals indicate where the cable is relative to the operator. A null response is displayed above the cable. Used for long distance marking of single utilities in non-congested areas. Audio response allows users to rely on sound rather than the screen.

Peak+Guidance: Used for finding and following the Peak response quickly. Peak graph with simultaneous depth and current information can be used for precise locating of utilities.

Peak+Null: Used for checking distortion, which can indicate the presence of multiple lines, or other features which may require extra vigilance.

Tx-10 Transmitter

The Tx-10 is designed to meet the demands of tracing utilities through today's complex underground infrastructure. The Tx-10 has the highest power capability with both Fault Find and CD modes as standard. The Tx-10 features constant current across the entire bandwidth in all modes (direct connect, clamp or inductive mode), and deliver convenience on-site with an IP65 ingress protection rating and a large, high contrasr, backlit LCD screen. The Tx-10 has an accessory storage tray which holds the supplied Direct Connection Lead, Earth Stake, Earth Reel and Neodymium Magnet.

The RD8100s are normally supplied as a kit which includes the RD8100 Locator, Tx-10 Transmitter, 4" (100mm) Transmitter Clamp and a Soft Carry Bag. Other accessories available include:

Locator Rechargeable Li-ion Battery Pack Kit: This kit is a convenient and cost effective alternative to alkaline batteries. It includes a battery pack and a universal mains charger. A 12V automotive charger is available for the Locator Rechargeable Battery Pack.

Transmitter Rechargeable Li-ion Battery Pack - complete Kit: This kit is a convenient and cost effective alternative to alkaline batteries. It includes a battery pack and both a universal mains charger and 12V automotive charger.

Transmitter Clamps: Used to apply a transmitter signal to a specific cable or pipe. Particularly useful where direct connection is not possible, or on live cables when these cannot be de-energised. Available in 2" (50mm), 4" (100mm), 5" (130mm) and 8.5" (215mm) diameters.

Current Direction (CD) Transmitter Clamp: This clamp is used to apply a CD or low frequency signal from a transmitter to a cable or pipe. The CD signal is useful for identifying individual utilities in congested areas. This is the only transmitter clamp which can be used with frequencies below 1kHz.

A-Frame: Used for locating sheath faults on cables, and coating defects on pipelines. It provides direction and magnitude of fault information on the display of the locator.

Sondes: Self-contained signal transmitters which can be attached to a push-rod to allow detection and tracing of non-metallic pipes or ducts.

Large Stethoscope: This flexible 20" (50cm) long accessory helps to locate and identify individual cables that are bundled together, in a tray or where it is not possible to use a clamp.

Live Plug and Cable Connectors: Connects the transmitter signals directly onto power distribution systems without needing to isolate the supply first.

FlexiTrace: Highly flexible 50m push-rod with integrated sonde. The rod can be energised by a Radiodetection transmitter and inserted into pipes as small as 12mm. It is used with a Radiodetection locator to find and trace small diameter plastic pipes.


Georg Fischer Ltd offers complementary training for one person per locator purchased. Our training is carried out by suitably qualified operators to a level to ensure correct operation of the locator.

The courses are structured to suit different levels of practical experience and cover the knowledge and skills required to operate the equipment correctly.

As a general rule the complementary training is available for 3 months from the date of purchase. Refresher training and/or new employee training for pipe and cable locators will be at a chargeable cost.
